Must I remind you this is a Saab Turbo Engine in a Mid-mounted position in a Honda N600. This event captured much more of what a car enthusiast is and what it’s all the fuss Car Week is about. Photo dump below as well as my thoughtful captions.
This is a Cosworth Vega. Oh wait. There were FOUR of them at this event. Never would I see the unique brainchild of John DeLorean here...
These were the ones behind the previous picture. It was insane to see that Cosworth goodness.
That interior.
And the pinnacle of any Cosworth product, a lovely engine. DOHC, 4 cylinders, but sadly muted with emissions and corporate diplomacy. If it came with 170 hp like what the prototype Cossies 4 bangers had, wow, that would be a hoot. Don’t forget. This is the 70’s we’re talking about.
I have no idea what this is for. But this would be very fun. Anywhere.
The right is a Benz wagon (autotragic, tragically) but an Opel GT. This is the second one I’ve seen in real life. Wow.
This was my third. This one looked seriously awesome.
And here is a car that very few of the community know about. It’s an Izuzu I-Mark with handling tuned with the magical unicorn semen of Lotus.
Mind you, these are probably the most inexpensive cars at the time to have Recaros out of the Factory. And Manual.
Turbocharged, 16 Valves, DOHC, and what appears to be a donut on top....(which I believe is a bribe for the LeMons judges). This was one of the cars I was genuinely surprised by. I want one of these.
I have no idea what this is. It looks like a Land Cruiser that just rose from the dead and took a waaaay too big of a dose of steroids.
And this is an Apocalypse-themed Altima. Suprisingly, both bumpers are DOT-approved.
He’s only been pulled over once (in the 6 months he’s owned it, and the cop didn’t give a second glance at it). It is awesome beyond belief. Now I want to find a Nissan SE-R and rally/apocalypse it out.
This was the closest to a McLaren F1 out of any car I saw at Laguna Seca or anywhere else. Note the fender flares. Very age correct 90’s fender flares. And wood (?) splitter adds 200 lb downforce..
Center mounted steering wheel for supreme weight distribution. Like the McLaren F1.
And don’t forget a longitudinally mid-mounted turbocharged engine made by SAAB. The McLaren F1 doesn’t have a turbo. (Win for Saab-Honda marriage)
Something for Torch.
There’s Alcantra on your hood, bras on the your pop up headlamp(s), an American Flag as a Miata cape, and a man with a Coonskin hat. DAMNNIT WHAT ELSE DOES THIS NEED? NOTHING BECAUSE MIATA
Oliver? (sound of Richard Hammond walking with a wet sticky spot on his pants)
It’s a Opel Kadett. It’s the same model Hammond drove!!!! And you would never see that at Pebble Beach.
I liked the wheels.
A Nash. And a Wagoneer next to it. And a AMC Gremlin next to it. Mr. Needam, you won’t find this at Pebble Beach.
I do not know of this Benz, but a 6 pack (of I presumably believe is not craft beer) to bribe the judges.
This space age car tickles my mind for I have seen it previously, but I can’t recall it.
Ok. More WTF. Maybe a Kit car with VW front suspension?
A Ford Anglia with a Fruit basket. Delicious.
The elements have not been nice to this Karmann-Ghia.
A super 70’s Ford Courier with a Rockin’ age appropiate 70’s decals.
The oh so hideous Look of the Fox Body Mercury Capri....
I remember a substitute teacher that drove one of these, but in worse condition. He looked like a rat and was one creepy fuck. Ugh.
A Citroen Allez. French design. She’s a beautiful woman with heavenly curves and oh, so sexy bottom.
This is a Manual transmission. Have you ever seen a steering wheel and a shift lever like this?
This is one awesome looking front end. This, in my opinion, had to be the most popular car at Lemons.
Two well-looked after Yugos. Yugoslavian build quality at fleek.
Super 80’s red stripe. Just like the E30 M3.
I never expected to see one of these. Two (or one) magical human beings took use of the 25 year law and imported two Reliant Robins. It was trailer’d here, obviously.
I look forward to the NorCal Reliant Robin Owners’ Club Meeting
.....eyes.
Reliant Robin TOP GEAR STOMP ROCKET!!!!!!!!!
A Subaru design that has aged extremely well.
This is (in my eyes) worth more than any overpriced Defender you can find on the market. Safaris, here I come!
The Author of this post with a explorer. Mustache. I believe he owned a French Wagon.
This is the likely only the only North American Event with 2 or more 2CVs present. This owner had 30 dollars’ worth of candy to bribe the judges (which was mostly gone by the end)
What is this wonderfully 80s’ moped?
My final shot for this post. Awards are handed out, and that’s when I left. I loved this event more than the fuckfest at Laguna Seca. I highly recommend going here during car week. You won’t see cocks here, but you’ll see some true car enthusiasts. (and they were selling original James Hunt stickers.....)

HMV freeway. It will actually do freeway speeds while getting 80mpg or so... if you can bear driving it.

Do belive that this is Mercury’s version of the Escort EXP, not a Crapri.

And if you don't have claustrophobia...

That’s actually an SM, the Maserati engined Grand Tourer from the 1970’s. This one looks like it’s in great shape!

That’s actually a Pacer, not a Gremlin.

Who would try and tow anything with one of these?
![]() 08/21/2015 at 18:27 |
|
Why wouldn't you? You can fit a Ariel Atom with a tow thing and actually tow things in it
![]() 08/21/2015 at 18:30 |

Yeah, but it only had 70 hp so pulling stuff would be difficult.

I actually really love these little things since I saw the one Hammond had on TG....that little car would just not give up!

Looks like the beautiful old girl I just happened to run into on the street on my hometown here in Canada not long ago! Same color and everything, I’ve always loved that lovely mechanical shift mechanism in these cars!

I believe this is the Ford Galaxie 500 that ran in a Baja rally a while back: http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/this-is-the-fi…

Actually much worse. It’s a Mercury LN7, based on the FWD Ford Tempo.

I hope this was functional
![]() 08/22/2015 at 12:17 |

Oh, it was functional all right. Fired up easily and it had a neat system that increased fuel as the boost climbed up.
